Are you looking for Alexander's 34th Texas Cavalry ( also known as the 2nd Partisan Rangers Regiment) or Terrell's 34th Texas Cavalry ( also known as the 37th Texas Cavalry) ?
Baird's Regiment( also known as the 4th Texas Cavalry Regiment, Arizona Brigade) was not organized until February of 1863. You might not want to know too much about Baird's "boys" . At the close of the war, ( with the exception of one company ) this regiment was operating in north Texas and was being chased by other Confederate troops because of the depradations they were inflicting on the local inhabitants . This is according to Sifakis' " Compendium...." . Another source, General Wright and Col Simpson ( "Texas in the War"), do not mention the same reference about a "behavior problem" . They just say that they ( the 4th) operated along the Rio Grande and on the Northwest Texas frontier. Their leader, Judge Spruce McCoy Baird was an interesting character who had to leave New Mexico due to his strong Southern "leanings" when Sibley's "invasion" forces were conducting their "retrograde movement" ( retreat) back through the area south of Albuquerque , where the good Judge had his residence. Hope this helps. Craig
