Thanks for the response, William. I have failed to mention in earlier posts that Frederick Bowen was from Arkansas. Apparently he and his brother William left Arkansas and went to Texas, as we cannot find them on the 1860 census. And their first children were born in Texas in the 1863 to 1865 time frame. Then they were back in Arkansas after the war. I don't know if William also served in the military as no one in the research famiy has mentioned it. They only mentioned that Frederick had received a pension, or maybe it was his widow. I haven't had any luck finding information on his service except on this site.
