I know he was buried at The Waverly Cemetery and supposedly provided the land for the school and the Methodist Church in Waverly. His father was John Archer Elmore who had fought with Nathaniel Greene in the American Revolution and they witnessed Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown. I guess what started my search was teaching US History and I have just started researching my family tree on my father's side. I understand Henry Elmore was a probate judge in Macon Co., AL and came to Texas around 1853. Supposedly, my great granny Elmore had the 20th regiment's flag that belonged to her grandaddy, but donated it to Sam Houston State, but now is has been acquired by the UDC. I will probably go to the cemetery next week to take some pictures. I wish I had his picture. I have meet so many nice people from this website, thank you for your information. I am planning to join the DAR and now the UDC. Family history is very interesting.
