Re: Fate of Jenkins' Ferry casualties

Heris the entry for John Newton Foster from the casebook of Dr. Henry Dye, surgeon in charge of the "Texas Hospital" at Tulip, Arkansas:

"Case 81st. J. N. Foster, 19th Texas, Co. (F), age 21. Wounded by a ball which entered the fibular side of the left leg, fracturing the tibia and made its exit on the inner side of the tibia one inch below a level with the place of entrance. Was allowed to remain quiet with one splint on the inside of the leg, and has progressed well, and at this time has nicely cicatrized. Union being formed between the upper and lower fragments."

Dye doesn't mention that Foster's leg was amputated, but it may have been at a later date. ANy information you might have on Foster would be greatly appreciated as I am in the process of publishing Dye's complete journal.
