I'm curious about the difference between Texas State Troops and the CSA units.

Were State troops conscripted or all volunteers? I keep running into cases where state troops refused to cross state borders. The other things I keep seeing are very short enlistment terms for State troops. It seems as though there were 90 day, 6 month and 1 year enlistments?

Are State troops the same as militia? I guess what I'm really asking is whether State troops were full-time formations or reserves that drilled from time to time and were subject to call up in emergencies?
