Wharton County was in the 22nd Home Guard Brigade District and raised the Wharton Rifles, T.S.T. The county had three Home Guard posts. Many of the men of Wharton County enlisted in Terry's Texas Cavalry, C.S.A. when the Home Guard was called into Confederate service.
