I think the accuracy of the illustrations varied. There is one of the Battle of Galveston, for example, where Kuhn's Wharf looks about 10 feet long. The skyline of what is supposed to be Galveston looks remarkably like Savannah. On the other hand, the one of Sabine Pass is very accurate. In my new Civil War Marine book, I put a Matthew Brady photo of Admiral Porter next to the engraving that appeared based on that photo. The artist was remarkably talented and you can see that it is an excellent likeness. He inserted a few officers in the background, but otherwise it is accurate down to the small details. So I think some were accurate and others were not.
