Jerry,
I believe Col. Coffee was in the Battle of Newtonia. It was after that which he was brought up on charges but they were dismissed. Jackman did not like Coffee and would probably do anything to discredit Coffee. Coffee was a no nonsense type of person and Jackman didn't like that.
He did Command the 6th Missouri and was probably one of the best recruiters for the South in Missouri.
He was the reason for the victory at the Battle of Lone Jack, Missouri.
He felt he should have been awarded the General position that was to Jo Shelby. There was quite a fued between them as I understand it.
Col. Coffee was one of the most feared Confederate leaders in Missouri, one the Federal men didn't want to go against.
It is my opinion that had there not been a War he would have become Governor of Missouri. Of course I am very partial to Col. Coffee.
He had a great record in politics in Missouri.
Oh we took the short bio from the Missouri Historical publication. I will try and get you one if I can.
