Lt. Col. Jeremiah Clough - 7th Texas

Col. Jeremiah Clough was killed in action at Fort Donelson on Feb. 15, 1862. His body was brought back to Clarksville, Tennessee and buried behind the Female Academy. I just recently got to see an original photograph which was taken by a Clarksville photographer in Feb 1862. It shows a military stern wheeler boat with metal siding, very possible a Confederate wooden clad boat, and written on the back was "Lt. Col. JM Clough 7th Texas, Feb 1862".
In the picture you can see two bodies in a smaller boat that are wrapped in some white cloth that have placed there for removal to the shore. Upon shore, the bodies of the Confederates were taken to the Female Academy and placed in the garden spot behind the school. In 1897 there were 127 remains found and removed to Riverview Cemetery, and the remainder of over 150 remained. Today there is a bridge over these burials in Clarksville, named "The Confederate Soldiers Memorial Bridge".
