In 1861, many men in the various militia companies in Lamar County enlisted in many different regular Confederate Army units as did men in other Home Guard companies. In August, 1861, Robert R. and William R. Young were enrolled in the 9th Brigade, Capt. J.J.Martin's Militia Company, Pct. 2, Lamar and Hopkins County, Texas State Troops.

In 1862, many regular Confederate army units were raised in northeast Texas and they received most of the enlistees from the 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th, 20th and 21st Brigades, T.S.T. These brigades included 34 Texas Counties.

The Roberts men could be found in any of those units or in others. For example, one of the Blanton's in my family in Fannin County enlisted in the Taylor's 5th Texas Cavalry Regiment at Bonham Texas and was sent to the 5th Cavalry Regiment at San Antonio. He was never in a milita unit.

* In 1861, my g.grandfather enlisted in the 14th Brigade, Fannin County, T.S.T. In 1863, he enlisted in Hardeman's 1st Texas Cavalry and in July, 1864 was placed in Maj. Diamond's Brush Battalion of Col. Bourland's Border Regiment

Recruits from the militia brigades could have enlisted in other regiments throughout Texas because those regiments had recruiting officers in Dallas, Greenville, Sherman, Paris and Bonham. Keep looking in the NPSSSS and you may find them.
