Col. Noble Layfayete McGinnis, Lieut. Col. of the 2^nd Texas Regiment (not cavalry). Here's his obituary:

In Memory of Col. N.L. McGinnis.

Col. Noble. L. McGinnis, departed this life, surrounded by sorrowing family members at his home on Eden Plantation on Bayou Rapides, 14 June 1898. He was in his 69th year and a native of Tennessee, a one-time resident of Texas and for many years an honored trusted and beloved citizen of Rapides Parish, Louisiana. He was born 3 Aug 1829 in Madisonville, TN. His parents moved to Savannah, TN during his early life and to MS in 1846. In 1851, he went to Bastrop, Texas where he engaged in farming until the out-break of the Civil War. He raised a company of soldiers and became, Company H, 2nd Texas Infantry, CSA They took a distinguished part in the Battle of Shiloh and many engagements; Corinth, Iuka, Farmington and the Siege of Vicksburg, MS. He moved to Rapides Parish, LA in 1869, where he was for many years a stock-raiser, mail contractor, livery stable man and merchant.

He was a friend to education and served for many years with disinterest and distinguish on the school board. He was for years, Mayor of Alexandria. 10 years before his death, he became a Christian and associated with the Methodist church. Twice married, he leaves a loving wife and a devoted family of sons & daughters.
