Re: Jones of Collins county musters

Many of Col. J.E. McCord's Frontier Regiment from Camp Colorado in Coleman County and Fort Mason in Mason County along with Act. Brig. Gen. S.P. Bankhead's Texas State Troops from Collin County were eventually sent to Col. John S. Ford's Army of the West and fought along the Rio Grande.

Shortly after the companies from Collin County were sent to Harrisburg, Act. Brig. Gen. S.P. Bankhead requested a company from Capt.Henry S.Fossett's remaining two 80 man companies at Camp Colorado to be transferred to the Warren Supply Depot in Fannin County to reinforce Col. Peter Hardeman's 1st Texas Cavalry which was raising troop strength and was soon to be sent to Gen. Samuel B. Maxey's Department of Arkansas and Indian Territory.

Capt. Fossett refused to comply and appealed the order to the Frontier Regiment headquarters in Gatesville where it was cancelled. Capt. Fossett made it clear to headquarters that if he was left with only one 80 man company, the frontier between Camp Colorado and Fort Mason would be virtually unprotected against Indian attacks.
