My mistake.....the 10th Texas Dismounted Cavalry was consolidated with Col. Mathew D. Ector's 14th Texas Cavalry after the battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
John Lafayette Camp was elected colonel of the 14th Texas Cavalry, after Col. Ector was promoted to brigidier general and placed in command of a brigade. Before and during the war, Col. Matthew F.Locke was a friend and associate of Col. Camp in Upshur County Texas and named his son Lafayette after him.
Camp County was established from the northern part of Upshur County in 1874 and was also named for Col. John Lafayette Camp.
