Jerry,

My Wife (Ruby Lyles) great grandfather enlisted in the 10th Texas Cav at Taos, Texas in 1861. His name was Richard S. Lyles. He traveled from Rusk Co., texas to enlist. Enlisted as a pvt Co., H., 10th Texas. Was elected 2nd Lt. of Co., H and then promoted to 1st Lt. Was in all the battles and wounded at Chicamuga, Ga. captured by the Union Army but rescued by the Confederates. He was promoted to Capt to fill the vacancy after the death of Capt W.D.Summers in late 1863. Was with the 10th in the battle for Atlanta and was wounded again at Alatoona.
He came home to Rusk Co., one time with Col C R Earp in 1862 or early 1863 He was killed March 31 1865. (probably
around Mobile) A friend brought his Pocket Bible back to his wife in Rusk Co., Texas after the War. We have the Bible and a Photo of Richard S. Lyles taken in uniform.
If you have any other information about Capt Lyles and Company H, 10 Texas, we would love to hear from you.
