The 10th Texas Cavalry mustered 900 recruits at Camp Tally in NE Upshur County with companies as far west as Van Zandt County, south to Cherokee County, north to Titus County and east as far as Panola, Harrison and Marion County.
In late 1860, Gov. Clark established CampTally and ten other camps in Texas for four months training of 1000 recruits in each camp. The camps were to be supplied by the citizens in the areas where they were located. My g.g.g. grandfather Samuel and g.g.grandfather Elijah Wyatt had a tannery just north of Pittsburg,Texas and a sutler store at Coffeeville where they supplied harness and leather goods to the recruits at Camp Tally.
