John Burden, prisoner held by Bourland's Regt,

Quoting Donna Burden-Macomber:
My GGrandfather, John Burden, signed this statement:

"Statement of John Burden a prisoner at the Myrtle St. Prison, St. Louis, made the 27th day of June 1863.

"My age is twenty three years.
I live in Hill County, (Missouri is crossed out) Texas
I was born in Hardin County, Tennessee b 1840
I was captured in Wayne County, Missouri
on or about the Fifteenth day of May 1863 ..."

Donna Burden-Macomber:

Your John Burden of Hill Co TX may not be the same John Burden of the 106 prisoners held by Bourland's Regt. in Apr 1865, but the possibility cannot be ruled out because:
.
1) Toward the end of the War many Texans, who returned from the Eastern theater, were sent to North and West Texas to protect the white settlers and their cattle from the marauding Indians. ... Chances are good that your John Burden became good friends with some of Capt. R.E. Sander's men from the Dallas and Parker County area who were mustered Mar 31, 1862 in Weatherford, Parker County after enrolling in Dallas County.
.
2) During the chaos of the last few months of The War, some Confederates' sympathies were being questioned. Some were arrested in a sweep of suspects and their associates.
