If he did happen to survive the indian skirmish in late 1861,the first major battle the 6th was involved in in early 1862(March) was in Arkansas at PeaRidge(Elkhorn Tavern)under McIntosh's Texas Cavalry Brigade. McIntosh was killed and losses to his brigade are unknown but were very heavy. Hope this may help some. Someone on the Arkansas in the Civil War message board may be able to help more.
