Pvt R. S. Lyles was elected 3 Lt May 8, 1862; promoted to 2nd Lt. by Aug 1, 1862 and 1st Lt. Nov 1862. Commanding Officer Co., H. 1863 and 1864. Promoted to Capt by Special Order #8, Aug 3, 1864; . promotion to fill a vacancy occassioned by the death of Capt W.D. Summers of said Company 25 day of September 1863. the date of the said vacancy.
Lt Lyles was wounded at Chicamuga 19 Sept 1863 and hospitlized for gunshot wounds to the left thigh. Recommended for 30 day leave of absence and returned to
duty Feb 21, 1864. Was one of the Capt's wounded at Allatoona, Ga.
Nothing else on his Confederate Record.
Our Family Bible says he died March 31 1865. His unit was at Mobile Bay or Spanish Fort at this time.
