On August 27,1868, General J.J. Reynolds (Federal Commander of Texas) issued Special Order No. 17 offering a $1,000 reward each for the delivery of any of the following persons to the post Commander at Austin or Marshall,Texas:
Bob Lee, B.F. Bickerstaff and Cullen Baker.
Henry Boren lived within four miles of Bob Lee. Boren's motives in helping the soldiers ambush Lee has been discussed often in the Corners, but the subject still remains clouded. In my opinion, it was for the reward offered by General Reynolds. The Boren clan was generally known as a rowdy bunch and at times liked to remind the local population of how hard they were to get along with.
Israel Boren, a member of the Boren family, was among the men who kidnapped Bob Lee held him for 36 hours in Choctaw Bottoms and tried to take him to Sherman for the reward.
