Yestereday I talked to Jackie Hughes who lives two miles north of the Oxford Lake site. He also leases a pasture at Pilot Grove and is a native of the area. Hughes said he has found some civil war items in that area and pointed out on the map exactly where Oxford Lake was located. There is a road that appears to dead-end at Oxford Lake and I plan on visiting the site on April 1 on the way to Leonard Texas and the reenactment and chili cook-off.
My great grandparents Joshua D. and Mary Lou (Blanton) Coffee named their fourth child Leonard Solomon (1874-1896) after the benefactor of the city of Leonard. All seven of my great grandparents children were born in Orangeville,Fannin County Texas from 1866 to 1878.
