I have been in touch with Boren descendents while digging up the Texas Spy Co soldiers and they sent me their family geneology and thoughts on Henry's reason for doing what he did. There is even a Boren Family book that has been published and is at the Waxahachie Library. Unfortunately,I cannot recollect the details and the info is all in remote storage at the moment.
Certainly the reward would have been incentive to assasinate Bob Lee,along with a score of other actual or perceived personal or sectional differences. It is interesting that Gladys Ray writes,"The archivist of the United States War Department stated in 1953 that the records do not show that any reward was ever paid to anyone for the capture of Bob Lee or any of his followers." No doubt Henry Boren never saw a nickel. He had been,"PAROLED to JESUS" within 24 hours of Bob Lee's murder by his nephew Bill Boren.
