Does anyone have the service record of Colonel Dan Showalter? He had a battalion of "Arizona" cavalry down on the border. At the beginning of the war he was one of a group of men arrested by the Union in California for strapping them on and getting on the road to the south. He had a reputation as a drinker and may have fought a duel or two.
