When their enlistments were up in April, 1862 at Fort Mason, the men of the 1st Texas Mounted Rifles enlisted in the 8th Texas Cavalry Battalion which was combined with the 3rd Texas Cavalry Battalion to form Col. Augustus Buchel's 1st Texas Cavalry Regiment,C.S.A.
Col. Buchel's 1st Texas Cavlry Regiment was in service in south Texas in the vacinity of the King Ranch and was moved to a camp at Harrisburg (Houston).The regiment moved into Louisiana where the regiment saw action. What remained of Col.Buchel's 1st Texas Cavalry Regiment was on garrison duty at Alexandria Louisiana at the end of the war.
