Re: How can I find civil war camps in Tx

I sure would like to know where the ten Confederate training camps were located. In 1861, Gov. Clark provided for the establishment of ten training camps for 1,000 new recruits in each camp for four months training atarting in July, 1861. The recruits were to be supplied by the citizens in the area.

I located these camps that is not on the link above:
Camp Tally in Upshur County, at Coffeeville, 10th Cavalry

Camp McCulloch in Victoria County, 4 miles north of Victoria, TX, 8th Cavalry Battalion consisted of men from the Col.H.E. McCulloch's 1st Mounted Riflemen whose enlistment was up in 1862 and recruits in the 15th Cavalry Regiment.

Camp Peach,I think it was in Colorado County near Alleyton or Columbus. The rail head from Harrisburg (Houston) ended at Alleyton and was used to send troops to the Texas coast and to Louisiana. 6th Infantry

Eagle Lake, Colorado County, south of Columbus/Alleyton, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Cavalry-Arizona Brigade. This was a camp for the organization of the Arizona Brigade for retaking the Arizona-New Mexico Territory. That effort was rejected by the Confederte War Department and the regiments were dispersed to other areas. Starting on May 30, 1863, 500 men of the 1st Cavalry was marched by companies to the Warren Supply Depot (Old Fort Warren) in Fannin County and arrived with 350 effectives. The 1st Texas Cavalry mustered an additional 500 men with recruits from local militia companies. The 1st Cavalry joined Col. R.M. Gano's Brigade at Fort Towson and saw action in Arkansas and Indian Territory.
