Jan Sanders,
Was Lt. N. Carson wrong about “Isaac McCoy’s house?” .. Do you know who this Isaac McCoy was? .. Have you ever heard of John W. Proffitt of Young County?
I have two contemporaneous accounts of this October 1864 event at the McCoy home.
1) Lieutenant N. Carson of Company D, Bourland’s Border Cavalry Regiment.wrote a dispatch about this October 1864 event in which he mentions “Isaac McCoy’s house, where two women [Betty Morris and Mrs. McCoy] were taken behind the men [on horseback], and I gathered my men and horses that were at camp and crossed over 1-1/2 miles to Fort Murrah [Throckmorton County]. ...” per an entry in the OFFICIAL RECORD.
Battle of Elm Creek. .. In my 1,014-page book, I devoted nine (9) pages to the Battle of Elm Creek in my volume I. .. Also, I have four (4) Young County militia listings plus militia listings of adjacent counties.
Miles McCoy, b-1847, is listed in Lt. Charles Neuhaus’ militia.
I’d be happy to send you more information from my book if you’ll e-mail me.
