actually, he had a second problem involving the wife of a unionist who wanted to send letters or? to her husband. Marmion helped her and got in trouble for it. His General investigated, concluded that what he did was against regs but not with criminal intention. I think it must have blown over. Are you sure that he was with the J.F. Carr to the end of the war? The reason I ask is that the records for this period down toward Corpus Christi are a bit sparse for the Marine Department. Was their really that much anti-Irish sentiment in that part of Texas? I've always had an impression that the Irish were a major presence since about the Mexican War (1848). There were huge numbers of Germans also.
