About September 1861, Pvt. Benjamin A. Salles was transferred to Capt. R. Prosper Landry's Artillery Company, Louisiana Artillery (Donaldsonville Artillery). When the 5th Texas Infantry arrived in Louisiana, Capt. Prosper's Artillery Company and the 5th Texas Infantry moved to Camp Texas near Richmond Virginia.
The Donaldsonville Artillery served the entire war in the Eastern Theater and saw action in the same operations as the 5th Texas Infantry.
