Its interesting that my gggf Joe Thompson was in Captain Throckmorton's Texas State Company that went up to the Territory with Young's regiment to drive those federals out.Maybe our gfs knew each other.I have a copy of the original company roll somewhere and will dig it up and look for Lisinbee. It gives the value of their horses, age and a few descriptions of their arms.

What is fascinating, the federals left faster then the Texans could catch them. However,a detachment of 30 under Captain Alf Johnson, including my gf, were sent ahead of the main body to scout the federal withdrawal.Sturgis, the officer in command of the federal withdrawal, became annoyed at these rash Texans and sent back a squadron to gobble them up.Johnson dismounted his men in a ravine and all were well armed with rifles.Sturgis demanded their surrender and Johnson,a veteran of San Jacinto,Indian Fighter and an old Texas ranger said,"We are free white men and we will damn well go where we please. You may take us but there will be many empty saddles if you attempt it." Cooler heads then prevailed and the Texas detachment was held prisoner for the night and then set free with their horses and arms the next day.Johnson said the federals were quite hospitable that night.

To my knowledge, what is significant is that this incident on May 5,1861, was very nearly the 1st shots of the war fired west of Ft Sumter.
