I too am looking for further detailed information regarding White's Ranch, the historical end of the line for Sheridan's railroad from Brazos Santiago running the 11 miles down to White's Ranch on the Rio Grande River. Indeed this is the historical facility reported in the Confederate and Union orders of battle, and by Rip Ford. There is nothing there today. In fact I haven't discovered the exact location within 1500 ft. or so, orientation or any exact or detailed map or drawing. This was a very active cargo and freight depot for goods coming into Matamoras and Brownsville from New Orleans, and the opposite as well. The Rio Grande although navigable by flat shallow bottem steamers all the way to Laredo and beyond at the time, on steamers King and Kenedy owned, was not able to be navigated at it's mouth with the Gulf due to very shallow sandbars at the mouth. Therefore they shipped via steamer to White's Ranch where the cargo was loaded on to the train and the train ran north to Brazos Santiago pass where it was all unloaded and moved aboard ocean going tall ships, some of the steam assisted as well.
