For what it is worth, Peebles is not a common name. There is a Jared Peebles, age 23 in 1860, Austin County. His father was Dr. R. R. Peebles, and his mother was the widow of Jared Groce. [A little bizarre to name a child from a second marriage after your deceased first husband] They were extremely wealthy but were unionists. Peeples senior was arrested by Magruder in the fall of 1863 for publishing an anti-war broadside, and sent out of the country to Mexico in July 1864. Have not a clue if this is the one, but at least the first initial and last name matches.
