Re: Lee B. McMurty, Quantrill's Guerillas

Was this Levi B. McMurtry b. 1835 Callaway Co., MO? He was a nephew of Col. Upton Hays of the 2nd Mo Cav (Confed). In 1860 he was living in Jackson Co., Mo (L. B. McMurtry)with Amazon Hays, Upton's brother. Upton and Amazon were partners in their freighting business in the late 1850's.
Also in 1860 there was a Levi McMurtry in Callaway Co., MO m. to Catherine. The 1870 Callaway Co., census lists Levi McMurtry in Callaway Co., Mo with wife Catharine (Scholl), children James R., Rose A., Jennie E., and Sallie. One source said he lived in Wichita Falls TX in 1896.

There may be 2 Lee/Levi McMurtrys - one m. Catharine Miller Scholl and lived in Callawy Co. up to 1870, the other m. Catherine Burns. This 2nd Lee/Levi may have been a son of Levi McMurtry and Sarah, b. also in abt 1835 and would have been a Guncle of the other Lee McMurtry although they were the same age. The online trees are a little confusing on this.
