My great grandfathers were all in the civil war and one was a yank from east Tennessee. Men from East Tennessee joined the Army of The Cumberland, U.S.A. because that area was in the Applichian Mountains and was not suitable for large plantations and the use of slaves. Just small farms were common in that area and most of the population went with the Union.
