I'm pretty sure he was not in Company F at the time of the battle. None of my lists indicate the presence of a man by that name in September 1863. There were a number of men who deserted from Company F in the winter of 1863-1864 and my best guess is that he probably was transferred in some time during or after that period to fill the void.
