Captain Murphy, Hawpe's 31st Texas Cavalry
In Response To: Re: Joseph W. Evans ()

Jerry Coffee,

Please help me find the first name of Captain Murphy of Hawpe's 31st Texas Cavalry cited in the following "Flatt, Horace P." entry of my bibliography, page B-8/ B-10.

J.H. Burgett had enrolled in the Brush Battalion after deserting Company “I” of the 31st Regiment Texas [Hawpe’s] Cavalry (Dismounted) for January and February 1864 indicated that Burgett was a “2nd Sergeant enlisted on 9 August 1862 at Fort Washita [Indian Territory] by J.W. Marshall for a period of 3 years or during the war. He was last paid by Capt. Murphy on June 30, 1863 and “absent without leave since 4 December 1863.” From “John Hoskins Burgett (1836-1872) of Montague County, Texas.” sent by Milbrey Otto Burgett of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
