Re: Van Dorn Raid Holly Springs, ms 1862

I am so disappointed to have missed this when you wrote it. My great-great-grandfather David J. Anderson rode with the Third and Sixth Texas Cavalry and was part of Van Dorn's Raid on the Union supply depot at Holly Springs in December 1862. Colonel John S. Griffith and the men of Rockwall and Kaufman counties in Texas dreamed up the idea for a raid far behind enemy lines. As you know the raid resulted in the withdrawal of Union generals Grant and Sherman from Mississippi and kept Vicksburg free for another six months.
