I am trying to learn some information about G.W. Small who is buried in the old Roberts (Baugh) Cemetery here in Brown County, Texas. Eakin's & Hale's "Branded as Rebels" Vo.1 lists 2 Smalls but does not give their first names. One was said to have been a Captain who recruited Confederates from norhern Missouri in 1862 and the other was said to have been "Leader of a band of guerrillas at Medicine Creek and Chillicothe, Missouri on April 8, 1862. Ref: Bartles."
The listing below is from the Roberts Cemetery list:
***
Small, G. W. ( Has Iron Fence)
26 Oct 1840- 1 Sept. 1920
Small, Elizabeth ( Parker)
10 March 1841- 18 Oct 1873
The following marker had fallen over It was restored in the 1990's as
shown in the notes at the top
Small, Parker E. W/ G.W.
10 Mar 1841- 18 Oct 1877
***
I think Elizabeth E. was G.W.'s wife and is mistakenly listed twice.
