Col. George A. Jackson

Has anyone run across any references to Lt. Col. George A. Jackson's battalion of sharpshooters in wartime newspapers or other sources?

A native of Missouri, Jackson left the Colorado gold fields when the war broke out and joined the Confederate army. He was recruiting his battalion near Dallas in the spring of 1864 for duty on the Texas frontier. Many Missouri refugees as well as ex-members of Quantrell's command supposedly formed the nucleus of this unit which may have never completed organization.
