Re: Major Robert M. White, 6th TX Cav Rgt

One of the witnesses of Major Whites death was Newton Asbury Keen of Company C of the 6th. In his book he says that he was just to Major Whites right when he was hit, and that they carried him back two miles. Major White died that night. The battle was described as hot and heavy with Ross' Bde killing about three hundred. In the days leading up to this battle they had captured two boats and several prisoners. Keen's book is called "Living and Fighting with the Texas 6Th Cavalry". He indicated the brigade detachment was made up of Company C of the 6th and 4 companies of the 1st Legion (27th TX Cav).
