Col Jack Wharton, 6th Tx Cav

Colonel Jack Wharton took over the 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment in 1863 when Sul Ross took over the Texas Brigade. At the end of the War he was sitting in for Ross as commander of Ross' Brigade while Ross was in Texas recruiting. After the war, Wharton built a rail road, raised horses and then went to Louisiana and was involved in politics. In 1878 President Hays made him Marshall of Louisiana for 4 years. Thus after 1882 we do not know what happened to him. I have tried several venues in Louisiana to no avail. Does anyone know what happened to Colonel Wharton after 1882. He would have been 50/51 years old as he was born Dec. 1, 1832.
