I am unable to identify this regiment or locate this Captain W. F. Foster mentioned in a Nov. 1861 letter by Henry Travis [11th TX Vols]to G.S. Lea in the 7th Regt. Miss. Inf. The 11th Texas Inf. Regt.(Roberts) was in Texas at the time so that is not the unit. Is there someone on your board that can direct me to a history of the Texas regiments that served in Virginia and whether their unit designation changed from the 11th to some other number when they reached VA. I am guessing that the regiment was the 4th Texas since it was in VA Nov. 1861 and it did go to GA with Longstreet in 1863 and the writer did also.

I know it's tough to unscramble unit histories, but someone somewhere has to have the answer.
