John Robert Baylor commanded the 2nd Texas Mounted Rifles, your ancestor's unit. George W. Baylor commanded the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Arizona Brigade which was a completely different unit. Hood's Brigade 9 could be the Ninth Brigade Texas State Troops, a militia unit that never left Texas. Maybe they wanted to honor Hood by tacking on his name to their numerical designation.
