Many times reports such as Taylor's refer to other reports which were not found when War Department clerks assembled the Official Records. There are usually denoted with an asterick. This probably means that the original was lost.

Sometimes copies of reports not published in series I of the O.R. are found in private collections. Our library has the extended series of the O.R. which include reports not found in series I.
