Col.Peter C. Hardeman and the 1st Texas Dismounted Cavalry regiment, Brig.Gen.James Edward Harrison's Brigade, Gen.Samuel B. Maxey's Infantry Division finished the war at Hempstead Texas near Houston. Within six months following the end of hostilities, Col. Hardeman took his family, some Confederate veterans and a saw mill to Brazil and established the Confederate American colony of Americana at Sao Paulo Brazil. Col. Hardeman, his family and most of the men and their families never returned and their descendants live there today.
In June 1863, Pvt. P.M. Green, age 30, formerly in Capt. Bumpass Company, Fannin County Pct.6, 14th Brigade, Texas State Troops enlisted in Col. Hardeman's 1st Texas Cavalry C.S.A. at the Warren Supply Depot, Fannin County Texas. Pvt.Thomas A. Green enlisted in Col.Hardeman's 1st Texas Cavalry regiment.
Either one of those two men could have been among the men who went to Brazil with Col. Hardeman.
