Jerry, this is the post which prompted my post. It is on the Kansas board. Stan

My gggrandfather was Collins Coffee, from West Plains, Missouri.
I was told a story of the death of Collins Coffee, who died 8 Sept 1864 on the Coffee farm. If I read the land records correctly Collins farm is across from the Howell Valley , Langston Cemetery east of West Plains.

Have you heard the story that Collins cousin John Trousdale Coffey killed him on Collins farm. John was for the confederate and Collins for the Union.

The story was told to me by the ggrandchild of William Coffee who lived close to Collins in West Plains.

Whould you have any way of finding the truth to this story? I have tried to follow John Coffey's travels, but not sure if I can find where John T. Coffey was on 8 Sept 1864.

I would be grateful of any help you can give me.

Thank you,
Lorie Okel
