Capt. John Guynes

Looking for any information about the execution of Capt. John Guynes of the 22nd Inf Company F. Several websites reported that he was executed for encouraging some of his men to desert in July 1864 before an attempted crossing of the Miss river heading eastward.

I have located a grave marker here in southern Arkansas and his DOD is listed as OCT 15th 1864. I'm assuming his execution took place here and he was buried. The grave marker looks farily new and I don't know who was responsible for placing it.

My email is computerwizard1959@gmail.com if any information is available.

Thanks,
Jim
