Re: WBTS NEWS: Scandinavians in CSA !

Hi,Alexander !

Well, I sorry to say that there allot of Americans that have "-son" in their lastnames that have no connection to Scandinavia. One of the reasons are that the word "son" does in fact have the same meaning in UK/US as in Scandinavia.(and vice versa) This is due to that both Danish,Swedish and Norwegian are in the same language group as English. So,just to pick out everyone with "son" in their lastnames the chances are at least 95% certain they are not Scandinavian.

If you come across soldiers as with your lastname "Larsson" with two "ss",then it is highter chance that he is Scandinavian. It is fewer of non Scandinavian decent that have a lastname with two "ss". One have to also look at the surname in the lastname as with "Lars". This is very common surename on boys in Scandinavia, but is very unlikely as a boyname in UK or US. Both og our lastnames "Larsson/Larsen" are a Swedish and Norwegian version of the same lastname - "Son of Lars".

There were in fact several high ranked officers in the CSA with the lastname "Anderson" - one was in fact a good friend and officer of Gen.Forrest.

I`ll look into Gen.Richard H. Anderson, but I belive the chances are small that he was of Scandinavian origin.

Thanks,Alexsander !
