Re: Texas Burials in Georgia (Cont)

Mr. Sturkey, I am slowly going over your list looking for any soldiers of Ross' Texas Cavalry Brigade. The Regimental units of the Brigade were the 1st Texas Legion (also know as the 27th Texas Cavalry Regiment), the 3rd Texas Cavalry Regiment, the 6th Texas Cavalry Regiment and the 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment. These units were involved as flank protection of Johnston's Army during the Atlanta Campaign, fighting from Rome to the Atlanta area for over 100 days and disrupting two of Sherman's raids. The units went from a strength of over 1800 in May 1864 to under 800 at the end of the campaign, when Hood went to Tennessee. Many of the wounded were in hospitals and homes across Georgia. My Great Great Uncle went back to Rome in the 1900's and his daughter married a doctor who lived in Cave Springs. He is buried in a cemetary in Floyd County. He died in Cunningham, Floyd County, SE of Rome on September 25, 1906. His unit was Company I of the 6th Texas Cavalry.
