Sterling J. McKnight, Co B, 22nd TX Cavalry
In Response To: Texas Burials in Georgia ()

O. Lee Sturkey,

Thank you for listing Texas Confederates who were buried in Georgia.

I submit that Captain Sterling J. McKnight of Co B, 22nd TX Cavalry was part of Bourland's Border Regiment Cavalry, at least during February 1865.

The BOURLAND PAPERS contain two letters dated Feb 10th and 12th, 1865 directed to S.J. McKnight, A.A.I. General in Gainesville, Texas. That was the week that Colonel James Bourland was promoted to “Commander on the Frontier” to defend settlers from marauding Indians. His Confederate regiment was split: most sent to the command of Lt-Col. J.R. Diamond while the rest were sent to Col. L.M. Martin's 5th Texas Partisan Rangers.

I would appreciate any comments.
