Looking for CSA Vet

My Great Great Grand father fought in the civil war for the confederate forces. He was 78 when he applied for pension and could not remember his unit. He enlisted in Fannin county, or at least he lived in Fannin when he enlisted. His application states that he served with Gen. McCulough (spelling may be wrong) and later Cpt. Anderson. His name was Albert Martin Smith but he signs his name Gov. Albert Martin Smith. He served with his brother William Bright Smith and a friend Jasper Wright. His last mission was trading goods in Matamorris Mexico, He was in Mexico when the war ended. I noticed a McCullochs attached to this unit. Can you offer any help????? . I think that he was part of the 1st mounted rifle under Henry McColloch, then spent a short time at home recovering from malaria, and later searved in Anderson's border unit.
Thanks
