The Knighten name is my married name, but I can tell you that my Knightens came to Texas from Georgia around 1890-1900. He was a cotton compress engineer. He came from Atlanta or more specifically Rome, Georgia. The Knightens are on the 1790 census in South Carolina, Old 96. There are four families on adjoining property. There are three about the same age and one family with the head who is older. I haven't looked at property records or wills. There is another Knighten that settled fairly early in Arkansas. He is probably related to the ones in South Carolina, but not the my Knightens in Ellis county. Collateral names are Guthrie and Turner.
